At MACS, we believe in a "less is more" approach when it comes to homework, as we encourage students to participate in extra curricular activities. However, in the upper elementary grades, homework provides the opportunity for students to develop strong time management habits in preparation for increased homework at the middle and high school levels.
Students will have nightly homework Monday through Thursday consisting of nightly reading with a written component. Students will also have a weekly spelling list that they are expected to study nightly prior to the test at the end of the week. Beginning in October, students will have a weekly math homework assignment consisting of 5 – 10 nightly practice problems. Occasionally, students will have a study guide for an upcoming assessment in math, science, or social studies.
In 5th grade, because homework provides an opportunity for practice, it is counted towards effort-based grades.
